Vicki McMurray is the mother of three children and grandmother to four adorable grandchildren. She has been a supporter of MCO for many years and is delighted to participate in rehearsal with the Grand Chorus, perform as a violinist in the Symphony Orchestra, and serve as a Youth Choirs Conductor’s Assistant for UMCO.
Vicki is an accomplished choral director, performer, and music educator. Throughout her career, she has taught countless students in choral, general music, and private settings at all age levels, from pre-K to adult. She has been a faculty member at Mountain Ridge Jr. High, Maple Mountain High School, American Heritage School, Utah Valley University, and Brigham Young University. She has worked as a guest conductor and clinician, having directed the Utah State Women’s Honor Choir in 2014, served several times as Musical Director for Savior of the World at the LDS Conference Center, worked for many years as a Kodaly specialist at Brigham Young University, and served for 10 years as a member of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
Vicki has a bachelor of music degree in music education from the University of Utah and a master of music degree in choral conducting from Brigham Young University. A classically trained pianist, violinist, and vocalist, mentors and conductors by whom she has been greatly influenced include Newell Weight, Bernell Hales, Gayle Lockwood, Betty Jeanne Chipman, Craig Jessop, Mack Wilberg, and Ronald Staheli.
Second only to her relationship and time with her family, the most meaningful endeavor of Vicki’s life has been to make music that praises God and bears witness of Jesus Christ. She is grateful for the opportunity to join like-minded souls in this important work at UMCO.
